VirtualSC PD offers self paced modules to support educators in The South Carolina Teaching Standards (SCTS) 4.0 rubric, which will be integrated into the Expanded ADEPT Support and Evaluation System beginning in 2018–19 for all classroom-based teachers in districts using the state model for teacher evaluation.
These modules will begin to run during the month of July and will include research based readings and videos to support professional practice aligned to the indicators of the SCTS 4.0 rubric. Along with the readings, educators may observe other teachers, submit reflections, and collect artifacts relevant to exemplary classroom instruction. These modules are not designed to enhance or replicate evaluator training, but rather to refine and extend an educator’s growth and development.
The learning modules will cost $50.00 and will be worth 20 renewal credits. A participant will have 60 days to be enrolled in the module. A module may be finished at any time and may not take 60 days to complete. A participant will be allowed 2 submissions to be graded by a certified South Carolina Evaluator vetted through the SCDE. If a participant does not pass a learning module after the second attempt, the participant will have to request and pay for the learning module again.
Recommendations for Participants Considering SCTS 4.0 Learning Modules
All VirtualSC PD SCTS 4.0 Learning Modules require the submission of an original artifact. Artifacts are designed to challenge educators across a wide array of submission types. Some artifact submissions may require participants ready access to student data, a classroom of students, or other teachers. For this reason, we have classified the learning modules into two categories:
- Actively Teaching: Learning modules in this category require major assessment submissions that may make use of student data, collaboration/observations with other teachers, or work to be done with students in the classroom. When enrolling in these learning modules it is strongly recommended that you be actively teaching.
- Experience Only: Learning modules in this category can be completed after any teaching experience and at any time, as the artifacts draw on knowledge solely from that experience.
